On May 20, Sudbury residents will gather for a Special Town Meeting that gets straight to the heart of our community's future. This session is designed to be an efficient one-night only, with just four articles on the warrant.
Democracy in Action
This Special Town Meeting is a powerful display of citizen-led democracy. This site highlights 3 of the 4 total articles. While Article 1 focuses on a bottle recycling initiative brought forward by civic-minded high school students, the remaining 3 focus on a critical theme: transparency and accountability in "good government."
All of these articles are citizen petitions. These are proposals raised not by officials, but by your neighbors, representing a collective effort to ensure our local government remains representative, open, and responsive to the people it serves.
Why Your Participation Matters
Town Meeting is one of the most authentic forms of democracy in America. It is government “By the People and For the People” in its truest sense and it thrives when our community is present and engaged.
Your Direct Voice: There are no proxies or absentee ballots. To vote and be part of the conversation, you simply have to be in the room.
Decisive Impact: Local decisions are often settled by just a few votes. Your presence can be the deciding factor in our town’s direction.
Constructive Engagement: This is your direct path to action. It’s a rewarding way to ensure local leadership reflects our community’s shared values.
Strengthening Sudbury: Showing up supports your neighbors and helps build a government that is as proactive and transparent as the people it serves.
